Frequently asked questions
Common Questions
- 01Learning From Home supports students in Years 10, 11, and 12. Year 10 tutoring focuses on bridging foundational gaps, boosting confidence, and mastering core algebraic and problem-solving skills. Year 11 and 12 lessons transition into specialized, exam-driven preparation tailored directly to VCE Mathematics study designs to maximize SAC and final exam marks.
- 02There is a massive difference between a recent high-school graduate or university student and a fully qualified educator with a decade in the classroom. Many online tutors are university students who primarily offer basic homework help. While they may have been great students themselves, they lack the formal educational training and classroom experience required to understand how different students learn and to develop targeted, individual lessons. At Learning From Home, your child is taught by a fully qualified teacher with over 9 years of classroom experience and a background as a Head of Mathematics. You are investing in professional teaching expertise that is proven to deliver results.
- 03I do not offer free trial tutoring sessions, as a single casual lesson rarely provides an accurate picture of a student's long-term potential. Instead, my support is structured into targeted 6-session packages to ensure we can build meaningful academic progress and momentum. To ensure we are the perfect fit, the journey begins with a free, 15-minute Academic Consultation, which provides an opportunity to "meet the tutor" before making any commitments.
- 04Yes. Particularly in VCE Mathematics, knowing how to use technology efficiently can make a massive difference under exam conditions. Often, it's more a case of knowing when to use the calculator rather than just how to use it. I help students determine the exact right moments to utilize technology, how to execute the steps accurately, and how to apply that data to ensure they are answering the specific criteria of the question.
- 05No special software downloads are required. We use a seamless, browser-based digital whiteboard setup, meaning your child simply clicks a private link to enter the classroom. All they need is a computer or tablet, a stable internet connection, and a quiet workspace to interact dynamically in real time.
- 06Yes, 100%. Because I am a career classroom teacher, I stay explicitly up to date with the latest Victorian Curriculum and VCAA study designs for Year 10 and VCE. Every resource, practice SAC, and exam-style question we use is strictly engineered to target exactly what will be tested at school this year.
- 07I understand that high school schedules change with sports, school events, and illness. For private lessons, because your time slot is strictly reserved for your child each week, I require at least 24 hours' notice to reschedule a session free of charge (subject to availability). Any cancellations made inside that 24-hour window will incur the standard session fee. For group sessions, because the class must go ahead for the remaining students, individual absences cannot be refunded or rescheduled. However, the absent student will receive full access to the recorded live lesson and all digital resources covered during that session so they can easily catch up before the following week.
- 08My targeted 6-session packages are intentionally designed to be run at any point throughout the school year. This flexibility means we can use the lessons for early preparation ahead of your school's timeline, run them in direct conjunction with your child's current classroom topics, or focus entirely on targeted review and revision in the lead-up to exams. We will completely tailor the pacing to match your child's immediate academic goals.
- 09When delivered by an experienced educator, online tutoring is often more focused and efficient than traditional in-person lessons. We use a live, interactive digital whiteboard that allows your child and me to write and solve equations together in real time, ensuring they stay fully engaged. This setup eliminates travel hassle while allowing us to seamlessly share digital resources and lesson recordings.
- 10No, I do not provide additional homework, as the students I work with generally have enough challenges completing the workload set by their school. Instead, our sessions are purpose-built to maximize our time together, and students receive full access to their digital lesson notes and video recordings to review whenever they need. Our focus is entirely on helping them master their current schoolwork and upcoming assessments without adding unnecessary stress.
- 11To secure your child's regular weekly time slot, payment for the 6-session block is made via direct deposit at least 48 hours before the first session begins. I understand that every family's budget is different; if upfront payment is not feasible, please let me know during our initial Academic Consultation, and we can easily arrange a split-payment plan to break the block into smaller instalments.
- 12As an experienced senior mathematics educator, I am fully qualified across the entire senior curriculum. While my current marketing and resources are focused on Year 10 and VCE General Mathematics, I am always open to discussing Methods tutoring on a case-by-case basis. If your child needs VCE Math Methods support, please reach out via the contact page so we can discuss their specific goals, my current timetable capacity, and see if we can tailor a solution for them.
